The award ceremony was attended by over 200 dignitaries from academia, politics and the business world and featured as Guest Speaker the former Spanish Prime Minister, Felipe González, who gave a reading on the relationship of Spain with Europe and Latin America.

A regenerative medicine and tissue engineering firm called Ebers has won the Entrepreneurship Award. This young biotech company, founded in June 2009, is dedicated to the design, manufacture and marketing of laboratory equipment for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, receiving the prize with a value of  € 60,000.

The two main driving forces behind the company are Pedro Moreno, CEO, and Victor Alastrué, director of R&D, both Industrial Engineers.  Angel Sampietro, a dentist and physician specialising in craniofacial deformities as well as shareholder and clinical and medical consultant at "Ebers", is the third key figure in this firm.

The company manufactures bioreactors, laboratory equipment that allows cultivation of cells for prolonged periods thus growing tissue required for the regeneration of bone and blood vessels.

In addition to controlling variables such as culture temperature, this equipment ensures proper distribution of nutrients within the tissue and mechanically stimulates the cells in the same way as they are stimulated in the human body.

The unique architecture of this range of bioreactors ensures excellent flexibility, because with minimal investment, the same equipment can be reused for the regeneration of various tissues.

The Entrepreneurship Award is designed to facilitate the financing of business projects that meet the criteria of innovation, feasibility and benefit to society.
