First.-Object of the competition
The following terms and conditions have as object to establish the rules for participating in the IX edition of essay prize called by everis foundation.
The literary genre concerned in this call corresponds to a “written in prose in which an author develops his ideas on a particular subject or matter with a personal and unique style” according to the definition of essay by Real Academia Española de la Lengua.
The essay must be the development of a reflection on any of the various impacts or policy issues arising in business today. The essay, dealing with business casuistry or most relevant factors of the business environment, among them economic, technological, sociological, anthropological or environmental, must be, at all times, an innovative work. It should be addressed to a wide audience and written in a style that can be understood by people who are not experts in the fields covered. Essays must be written in Spanish or English.
Second.- Works submission
The work will be submitted to the registered office of the everis foundation (Avenida Manoteras 52, 28050 Madrid, Spain), before 20.00 hours on June 1st, 2010. In order to be accepted, manuscripts sent by post must carry a postmark before the competition closing date.
Works delivery must comprise two sealed envelopes: in both of them "Essay Prize everis foundation" must be clearly written as well as the title of the essay and the author´s pseudonym.
One the envelopes must contain the original essay and four copies bound or sewn: only the title of the essay and the pseudonym must be written on the cover page of these four copies. Additionally, it must also be included an excerpt of the essay no longer than two pages.
The other envelope should contain personal data of the author (name, address, phone, e-mail address and professional status) and a letter signed by the author or authors stating that the work is unpublished, has not been submitted to any other contest, that the rights have not been previously assigned and all involved accepted the rules of this competition. This second envelope must also contain a copy of the original in electronic form.
Originals and copies submitted will not be returned.
Third.-Prize
There will be a single prize of € 24,000. If the quality of the entries is deemed insufficient The jury reserves the right to withdraw this single prize. The jury may, however, award a commendation prize of € 6,000 to the finalist, besides the winning essay, whose work quality it’s worthy of mention.
Fourth.-Participants
Participation is open to any nationality authors. The essay must be written in Spanish or English language. Participation can be individual or as a team. Works from authors deceased prior to the prize calling are excluded from participation. everis employees as well as their relatives up to second degree of consanguinity are not eligible to take part in the competition.
Fifth.-Originality and authorship
Authors must guarantee works are original, unpublished and have not been submitted or awarded in any other competition. Works must not be copies or modifications of any other work with rights to third parties. It will not be regarded as unpublished if significant parts of the work have been previously published, being derived or translations. The minimum length is 60,000 words while it must not exceed 120,000 words. Works must be typed, space and a half and only on one side.
Sixth.-Jury
The jury will be appointed by full agreement of everis foundation Committee and will be made up of people from the academic and business worlds. The chairman will be everis foundation chairman and the secretary will be a member of everis foundation. The jury’s decision will be final and its verdict will be known in the awards ceremony to be held the last quarter of 2010.
Seventh.-Other terms and conditions
Publishing of winning essay
The everis foundation reserves the right to publish the winning essay, as well as a second prize, and it will be responsible for designating the publisher, who will print as many copies as they deem appropriate. The winning author(s) will transfer the exclusive rights of publication to the publishers.
Confidentiality
everis foundation is committed to maintain all confidentiality about not–awarded essays.
Acceptance of rules
Participation in this event implies the acceptance of all above rules governing the competition, without exception or restraints as well as of any resolution adopted due to occurrences.
